The Basilica in Isla is hit by bombs
On Thursday, 16 January 1941, during one of the attacks on the HMS Illustrious, the Isla Basilica dedicated to the birth of the Virgin Mary, was hit for the first time by a bomb and suffered considerable damage. It incurred further damage in the following months but the fatal blow happened in April of 1942 when the dome and the choir collapsed.
