An Ottoman fleet is spotted near Malta
On May 18, 1565, Malta’s destiny changed as Turkish vessels, carrying the army sent to conquer it, were first sighted.
The Maltese were ordered to seek shelter in the fortifications as the Turkish fleet approached Malta. Many flocked to Birgu, and therefore, the Grand Master gave instructions to send some Maltese to Fort St Michael.
