The Um El Faroud is scuttled
The Um El Faroud was a Libyan tanker that entered the Malta Dockyard for repair. However, on that same day, an explosion took place on board which left nine workers dead. The ship sustained extensive damage and never set sail again. For the next three years, it was left anchored at Valletta, until it was decided that it would be scuttled off Żurrieq to serve as an artificial reef.
