The inauguration and blessing of the dome of the old church of the Annunciation
Until the first quarter of the 20th century, the Church of the Annunciation in Birgu was still without a dome. Initially, there was doubt if the pillars could even withstand the weight.
Prior Alfons Spiteri and architect Gustav Soler took the responsibility and so the works were finished in seven months’ time. On 23 August 1925, it was inaugurated and blessed by Bishop Anġlu Portelli.
