After the war, some believed that the Isla Parish Church should be rebuilt after it was destroyed in 1942.

This idea was discarded and therefore the architects Giuseppi Caruana and Giuseppe Mallia Milanes, oversaw the modifications, the restoration and the rebuilding of the collapsed parts. Archbishop Mikiel Gonzi consecrated the church again on 24 August 1957.
