Work on the Parish Church of Cospicua that we see today started in the late 17th century but its construction took a long time to complete.

The building efforts were stopped several times until it was completed in the first decades of the 18th century. In the same year, this Bishop wanted the title of the church to be changed from that of Our Lady of Help to that of Immaculate Conception.
