Actor Charles Clews passes away
Born on 27 September 1919 in Isla, Charles Clews was a Maltese comic actor and scriptwriter. He was one of the first contributors to the local Maltese radio which at that time was the Rediffusion.
He worked at the Admiralty Dockyard as a marine surveyor and established his acting career during concerts for the dockyard workers to keep morale up, particularly since the Dockyard was often hit during bombardments of the Second World War. He continued to perform on stage, TV and radio for many years. In 1996 he was awarded the ‘Midalja għall-Qadi tar-Repubblika‘ (Medal for the Service of the Republic).
