On Saturday, 3 February 1923, in a concert that was organised by the Għaqda Kittieba tal-Malti, the Mandolinistic Society Melita which was part of the Duke of Edinburgh Philharmonic Society of Birgu, played the Maltese National Anthem for the first time in an official manner. This event happened a few months after Dun Karm Psaila wrote the final verses of the national anthem.
