The last time Rinella's cannon was fired was during the colonial era
The Rinella Battery, more commonly known as Fort Rinella, was built in the Victorian era. The cannon of this fortress, which is located within the limits of Kalkara, entered service in 1884, whereas the Battery was completed in 1886.
The last time this cannon was fired in the colonial era was on 5 May 1905 during a routine test. When the Battery was taken over by Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna, the cannon was restored and it was fired again in 2005, on the centenary of its last use.
