The most memorable season for the St George’s Football Club
Football was introduced in Malta during the time of the British in the middle of the 19th century. The first football club in Malta was that of Bormla with the name of Santa Margherita. The St George’s Football Club of Bormla knew its beginning in 1890 after the football teams of Bormla came together.
One of the most memorable seasons for this club was the 1916/17 season which opened on 5 November 1916, during which St George’s Football Club won the ‘double’ by being crowned League champions and Knock Out Cousis Shield winners.
