In 1699, a Conservatory was established in Cospicua for poor adolescent girls. It was eventually dedicated to St Joseph of the Apparition.

Since in 1980, the ceilings of the Conservatory were in a perilous state, the nuns and the children who lived there were moved to an orphanage in Żabbar, and the Conservatory was closed down.

Towards the end of the 20th and early 21st centuries, the Conservatory was modified and turned into an Elderly Home.
