The Statue of Christ the Redeemer returns to Isla
When the war was practically over, on 9 July 1944, the statue of Jesus the Redeemer was brought back to Isla.
At first, the statue was transported to the Church of Christ the King in Paola. Three days later, it was carried on a pilgrimage to Isla. Since Isla’s parish church was in a dilapidated state, the pilgrimage ended at the Church of Our Lady of Porto Salvo which, at the time was serving as a parish instead of the other one. When, in October 1947, the Oratory of the Holy Crucifix was again in use, the statue was transported to its rightful place there.
