The church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, also known as “Our Lady of Victories”, was built in memory of the glorious victory against the Turks during the Great Siege in 1565.

Isla Parish Church becomes a Basilica
On 3 January 1921, Pope Benedict XV elevated the Parish Church and Collegiate of Isla to a Basilica. In that same year, the processional statue of Maria Bambina was crowned by Vatican Decree, turning the Parish Church of Isla into a Sanctuary.
